Turtle Creek Reservoir, owned and operated by Hoosier Energy, announces its waterfowl hunting schedule for this fall and winter.
The lake will be closed to fishing starting on November 23, 2024, and will reopen on February 17, 2025.
Public waterfowl hunts are open on Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 6 a.m. and closing at 12 o’clock noon, Eastern Standard Time. No shooting is permitted after 12 p.m., and all hunters must be off the lake and checked back in at the Guard House by 1 p.m. Turtle Creek is in the South Zone for IDNR waterfowl seasons and all Indiana waterfowl hunting regulations apply.
Turtle Creek will be open for hunting goose from November 23, 2024, to February 15, 2025. It will open for duck hunting from November 30, 2024, to January 26, 2025.
The daily bag limit for ducks is six, including any combination of buffleheads, gadwalls, goldeneyes, long-tailed ducks, ring-necked ducks, ruddy ducks, scoters, shovelers, teal and wigeon. Additional restrictions include only two black ducks daily, only two canvasbacks daily, only four mallards daily with not more than two females, only one mottled duck daily, only one pintail daily, only one scaup daily before December 13 and only two scaup thereafter, only two redheads daily and only three wood ducks daily.
The daily bag limit for mergansers, which is separate from the duck limit, is five, including no more than two hooded mergansers.
The daily bag limit for coots is 15.
The possession limit for ducks, coots and mergansers is three times the daily bag limit.
The bag limit for Canada geese and brant is five geese aggregate. The possession limit is three times the daily bag limit. The daily bag limit for light geese (snow, blue, Ross’ geese) is 20 with no possession limit.
