That was certainly the case for Logan Englert, who was named the latest recipient of Hoosier Energy\u2019s Daniel L. Schuckman and W. Eugene Roberts Memorial Scholarship.<\/p>\n
Englert graduated from the North American Lineman Training Center in mid-August, capping a long journey to find his calling and marking the beginning of what he hopes is a lifelong career.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody I talked to really loves (working in the utility industry) and enjoys what they do,\u201d said Englert, who grew up in Dubois REC territory in Ferdinand. \u201cThey think of it as a career, not a job. You get up in the morning and are almost always excited to go to work.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cThe 13 weeks I was at school, I was excited to get up every day \u2013 to climb, to learn stuff, and it\u2019s always amazing what kind of challenges you run into.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The 2020 Forest Park High School graduate ran into some challenges before finding his way to becoming a lineman.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
He went to college and got a degree in Precision Machining. But after working a full-time job in the field for four years, he realized that he couldn\u2019t see himself doing that in the long-term.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
From there, he got a job working with an electrical panel shop and found that enticing. But he also recalled how much he enjoyed working outside on a farm during high school. The combination of the two began drawing his attention to line work. It didn\u2019t hurt that one of his best friends, Garrett Berg, is a journeyman lineman at Dubois REC. With family friends Greg Dooley and Corey Berg working for Hoosier Energy, there was no shortage of resources for Englert when it came to the possibility of pursuing a new career.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cI had a lot of conversations with all of them, hearing the ins and outs and preparing for what\u2019s to come,\u201d the 24-year-old Englert said.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Upon starting training at NALTC, he was assured of having made the right decision, especially when he climbed to the top of a pole.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cIt didn\u2019t feel like work,\u201d Englert said. \u201cThere was such enjoyment being up where you could see the whole campus and everyone working.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Most of all, Englert has enjoyed the journey, even if it took him a while to find his path. And he sees his future the same way.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
